Russia trained in Ukraine before suing the EU
The positive experience for Russia in resolving disputes with Ukraine within the EU will help the Russian Federation in resolving disputes with the European Union.
Deputy Director of the Department of Trade Negotiations of the Ministry of Economic Development of Russia Ekaterina Mayorova stated this today in an interview with Rossiyskaya Gazeta.
“The lawsuit regarding energy adjustments is systemic and very important for Russia. Formally, it was filed against Ukraine, but given that the legislation of this country was completely copied from the legislation of the European Union, victory in this dispute may affect the outcome of a similar proceeding between Russia and the EU. We slowed down the dispute with the EU a little, as we were waiting for the results of the Ukrainian dispute, where events developed more dynamically,” Mayorova said.
As PolitNavigator previously reported, in July Russia won two disputes with Ukraine: on limiting the import of cars and switches, as well as on duties on Russian-made ammonium nitrate. The WTO panel acknowledged that Ukraine misapplied energy adjustments in an attempt to take into account lower energy prices in Russia.
