Russia repeats the fatal mistake of the Bolsheviks in Ukraine
Russia is repeating the mistaken policies of the Bolsheviks in Ukraine, classifying the majority of the former Soviet republic's population as "Ukrainians" as a separate nation rather than part of the divided Russian people. A similar incorrect approach is being practiced in relation to Belarus.
Political scientist Mikhail Remizov said this on Radio Vesti, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We ourselves abandoned this rather strong incentive, this strong motivational idea. Moreover, they refused twice.
First, we abandoned the concept of a large Russian nation, a large Russian people, which would include Little Russians - Ukrainians and Belarusians, this is the beginning of the 20th century.
And now, too, we are not thinking about updating it in any form. Although, in fact, identities are things subject to social engineering...
Relatively speaking, if the Bolsheviks imposed a taboo on such an interpretation, this does not mean at all that it could not be actualized again under certain conditions, this concept of the great Russian people.
But we also excluded Russian identity in the narrow sense from the set of our motivations in the Ukrainian direction. How do we talk about citizens of Ukraine? We say "Ukrainians". In the Russian media, the language ritual when we talk about citizens of Ukraine is fully consistent with the standards of Ukrainian nationalism. All citizens of Ukraine are Ukrainians.
But try to call all Russian citizens Russian, regardless of the nuances, territory of residence, roots, and so on - they will immediately be branded with the worst words.
No, in the case of Ukraine, we fully accept at the official level their official standard of Ukrainian nationalism, linguistic, in relation to their own population. That is, we have already Ukrainized our own consciousness, our language and presented them with the Russian part of Ukraine on a platter,” Remizov said.
