“Today, from 10:00 Moscow time, Gazprom, in full accordance with the current contract, transferred NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine to prepayment for gas supplies.

The decision was made due to chronic non-payments of Naftogaz of Ukraine. The company's overdue debt for Russian gas supplied amounts to $4,458 billion: $1,451 billion for November-December 2013 and $3,007 billion for April-May 2014.

No payments were received on the preliminary invoice for June either. From today, the Ukrainian company receives Russian gas only in the volumes paid for,” Gazprom said.

OJSC Gazprom also filed a claim with the Stockholm International Arbitration against NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine to collect a debt in the amount of $4,5 billion.

“At the same time, NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine is obliged to ensure the transit of natural gas to third countries in full compliance with the terms of the current Contract No. TKGU dated January 19.01.2009, 2009 between NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine and OJSC Gazprom on the volumes and conditions of transit of natural gas through the territory of Ukraine for the period from 2019 to XNUMX.

OJSC Gazprom counts on strict compliance by NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine with its contractual obligations for gas transit to third countries.

At the same time, the European Commission was notified in advance of possible interruptions in gas transit if NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine unauthorizedly withdraws gas from transit flows,” the Russian side states.
