This was stated on Thursday by the Presidential Envoy to the Crimean Federal District Oleg Belaventsev, reports TASS.
“Unprecedented decisions were made to strengthen the defense capability of the peninsula. Crimea today is an impregnable fortress,” the plenipotentiary said.
He recalled that a large military group had been created on the peninsula, and the aviation group had “changed for the better.” In addition, the Black Sea Fleet is being replenished - according to the plenipotentiary, “Project 636 submarines with missiles on board are heading to Crimea.”
Belaventsev pointed out that the state has allocated significant resources to put in order the military infrastructure, which is badly worn out in Crimea.
The plenipotentiary also noted the revival of the Higher Naval School in Sevastopol, as well as the creation of the Presidential Cadet School, which should also become a naval school.
“It’s very good that lately all the work on developing the armed forces has been going on comprehensively. If it is known that a certain type of weapon is being prepared for use, then personnel, caponiers, and other infrastructure are being prepared in parallel,” added Oleg Belaventsev.
In December, the head of the military department, Army General Sergei Shoigu, announced the creation of a self-sufficient group of troops in Crimea and Sevastopol. He recalled that in addition to the existing forces and means, seven formations and eight military units were created on the peninsula.
It was previously reported that the Crimean aviation group now has fighters, strike and attack aircraft, as well as transport and army aviation, and the air defense forces have divisions of S-300 missile systems.
