“The tourism industry's share of global gross domestic product reaches almost 10%. 10% of world GDP is tourism. Not oil or gas, but tourism. This is one of the most profitable sectors of the economy, accounting for almost every 11th job. Additional sources of economic growth and new jobs are what the regions of the North Caucasus really need. To get them, the Caucasus, in principle, has everything you need. Here, historical monuments coexist with unique nature, mountains, ancient cities provide an opportunity for interesting and varied recreation, and if we talk about ecology, mineral springs - simply improve your health, and throughout the year,” Medvedev noted.

“This morning we looked at what Arkhyz looks like. I must admit, it’s impressive, this is already a modern resort - you can ski there and just relax,” the prime minister said.

Arkhyz Resort

“There are certain results. Last year, almost 1,5 million tourists visited all resorts in the region. Progress is especially noticeable in the ski sector; in two years it has doubled to half a million people. However, according to experts, the North Caucasus is capable of receiving much more tourists - up to 10 million people a year... If we talk about ski tourism, we now have three such projects: Arkhyz, Elbrus in Kabardino-Balkaria and Veduchi in Chechnya . Moreover, “Arkhyz” is already approaching the indicators of a good, standard resort,” Medvedev emphasized.

“The key project in the field of balneological tourism is a medical cluster on the territory of the Caucasian Mineral Waters. This is a unique resort region. There is a certain infrastructure here, but it is not in the best condition. More precisely, it is different: there are good sanatoriums, and there are very old ones. This infrastructure needs to be improved both in terms of service and treatment,” said the head of government.
