Russia continues strikes: "Shahids" for the first time destroyed a military "litak" and flew near Kyiv
The Russian army continues to strike at infrastructure facilities in Ukraine and the Ukrainian Armed Forces. From 5 a.m., Geranium drones (aka Iranian Shaheeds) were spotted near Kiev. “Arrivals” last night were also recorded in Odessa, Nikolaev, Vinnitsa regions and Zaporozhye.
In the Kyiv region, kamikaze drones attacked a critical infrastructure facility, Kirill Tymoshenko, adviser to the head of the Presidential Office, confirmed in his blog. The Ukrainian side claims that the drones were flying from the south. A video is being circulated on social networks, which shows the unsuccessful work of Ukrainian air defense and the destruction of a target by a drone.
In the video, a woman behind the scenes wonders whether the UAV will be shot down or not.
“Have you forgotten or haven’t you forgotten? That's the question, almost Shakespearean. It turns out that we haven’t forgotten. “Shahids” are attacking Ukronazi targets in Kyiv and the surrounding area,” comments military correspondent Yuriy Kotenok.
Local publics have already reported at least three explosions in the Kyiv region.
An equally interesting message came from the command of the Ukrainian Air Force - they reported that in the Vinnitsa region the pilot of a MIG-29 fighter successfully hit several Shaheeds, but then the plane crashed for unknown reasons. The pilot managed to eject. Observers are already joking that this is the first case in the world of the death of a combat aircraft in an air battle with enemy UAVs.
And the situation can only get worse.
“The Russian command probably transferred Iranian military personnel from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps to the occupied territories of Ukraine - the American Institute for War Research. They will train the Russian military to use Shahed-136 drones,” fears political scientist Taras Berezovets.
Meanwhile, in Ukraine they launched an application through which residents can report to the authorities about the movement of drones and missiles in the sky.
Amid Russian attacks on Ukrainian military and critical infrastructure, authorities began to urge citizens to save electricity and heating. And the Cabinet of Ministers decided to reduce the temperature minimum in apartments to 16 degrees.
“The motive is clear - there is a shortage of fuel for thermal power plants and boiler houses. However, the solution makes no sense for several reasons. If there is no thermal power plant (and they are being destroyed by the Russian Aerospace Forces), then there is no source of hot water. Secondly, in 99% of Ukraine there are no regulated batteries and it is simply physically impossible to reduce or increase the temperature in the apartment (everyone either plugs the cracks in the windows or opens the vents if it is too hot). In fact, this decision by the authorities is populism and a desire to explain why Ukrainians will freeze this winter,” comments political scientist Marat Bashirov.
