Restoration work in the Khan's Palace in Bakhchisarai will last 7-10 years. 1,6 billion rubles have been allocated for the restoration of the architectural monument; 16 objects will be restored.

The general director of the Bakhchisaray historical, cultural and archaeological museum-reserve Vadim Martynyuk told the Crimean newspaper about this, the correspondent reports.

Despite the large-scale reconstruction, the museum will not close.

“This year the premises where the famous Fountain of Tears is located were supposed to be closed. But our architect proposed an emergency design option that would provide access to the fountain, and it was implemented. Our task – and so far we are coping with it – is to ensure that the Khan’s Palace does not close during the period of restoration work,” said Martynyuk.

In 2015, the roof of the Khan Mosque, which was in disrepair, was restored, as well as the southern building of the main building of the palace. Work was completed for 148 million rubles.

Earlier, Russian State Duma deputy from Crimea Ruslan Balbek said that restoration of the Khan's Palace in Bakhchisarai was carried out under Ukraine using barbaric methods – this was discovered during restoration work by Russian specialists.

“The emergency work that is currently being carried out on the territory of the Khan’s Palace has revealed a number of shortcomings that should be eliminated as soon as possible. The saddest thing is the truly amateurish, or, more precisely, barbaric conduct of archaeological research in Ukrainian times, during which the work sites were not conserved and turned into a drainage basin,” Balbec argued.
