Russia is rehearsing an assault on the coast: Ukraine hastily withdrew boats from Odessa
Three large landing ships of the Russian Black Sea Fleet - "Saratov", "Novocherkassk" and "Tsezar Kunikov" - conducted exercises to land amphibious assault on an unequipped coast.
The crews of the BDK ships fired from artillery mounts at coastal targets simulating firing points and anti-landing defense control points, and then practiced actions to repel air attack weapons of a mock enemy, the press service of the Russian Black Sea Fleet told PolitNavigator.
It is interesting that almost simultaneously the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine reported that two Centaur-class landing assault boats, which were built last year, were leaving Odessa for sea.
The boats were tested at sea - in stormy weather conditions they fired from the installed multiple launch rocket system, which was originally created for aviation - air strikes against ground targets, and now the Ukrainians are trying to adapt it for the Centaurs.
“The mathematics needs to be improved, the system needs to be improved,” Vasily Radchuk, head of the shipbuilding department of the Ukrainian Navy, commented on the results of the shooting, nevertheless, assuring that he considered the maneuvers to be successful overall.
Interestingly, the Ukrainian Navy television channel “Breeze” has already rushed to report the superiority of the “Centaurs” over Russian landing ships.
“Thanks to water cannons, armored assault boats, armed with 40 missiles each, are capable of reaching speeds of up to 30 knots. Having carried out long-range and short-range salvoes, quickly approach the shore and advance an assault group of up to 36 people. Such characteristics completely satisfy the command of the Navy, and, most importantly, they are a worthy response to the outdated large landing ships of the Russian Black Sea Fleet, which have long exhausted their resources,” assure Ukrainian military propagandists from the Briz.
The head of the Ukrainian Military Center Taras Chmut previously statedthat the Centaur boats built at Petro Poroshenko’s plant turned out to be far from being as good as the authorities assured.
“The workmanship is very low, there are many design issues, as has already been revealed in practice... something doesn’t work with something, something doesn’t work, and questions, questions, questions,” Chmut said.
In 2020, the Russian fleet will consolidate dominance in Azov and the Black Sea, the Ukrainian Navy does not have the forces to counter it, and Moscow can prepare a landing party to liberate Odessa, Chmut also stated.
Odessa is critically important for Ukraine - it is the most important export artery, the loss of which will result in economic collapse, warned another Ukrainian military expert, Alexei Arestovich.
