Russia sharply rejected NATO's proposal to discuss Ukraine
Russia agrees to resume work in council with NATO if the Ukrainian problem is not discussed exclusively there. Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated this today at a press conference following negotiations with his German counterpart Sigmar Gabriel.

“When they tell us: we will meet in the Russia-NATO Council, but we will only discuss Ukraine, this is a continuation of the paranoid aggressive policy. NATO has nothing to do with the Ukrainian settlement efforts. If the essence of these ideas is to use the Russia-NATO council for another confrontation, we do not want to play such games. If we discuss Ukraine, and we know in what spirit NATO members discuss it, this will not move us towards a balance of interests,” Lavrov said.
He believes that the idea of joining NATO was one of the reasons for the coup in Kyiv in 2014.
“The radically nationalist part of the Ukrainian elite lost consciousness in February 2014, when the message that Ukraine would be in NATO materialized in a coup d’etat,” Lavrov said.
