Russia has taken another step to strengthen its dominance in the Black Sea
The Severnaya Verf shipyard launched the newest corvette “Retivy”, which is being built by order of the Black Sea Fleet. This was reported by the press service of the enterprise.
This is the first Project 20380 corvette built for the needs of the Black Sea Fleet; four of its predecessors, built in 2007-2014, are serving in the Baltic Fleet. After the launch, “Retivy” will be towed to the finishing embankment and its construction will continue. The start of mooring tests is scheduled for the end of 2020.
Corvettes of the project to which “Retivy” belongs are designed to detect and destroy enemy submarines and surface ships, ensure landings, and also solve various tasks in the near sea zone. The ships are equipped with artillery, anti-missile, anti-submarine, hydroacoustic and radar systems; there is also a hangar for the Ka-27 helicopter.
“Ships such as the corvette “Retivy” can effectively perform tasks as part of detachments and groups of warships. All the characteristics that the corvette has confirm the high quality of work that the Severnaya Verf plant has achieved in the construction of ships of this class,” said Navy Commander-in-Chief Admiral Nikolai Evmenov.
At the launching ceremony of the corvette, Deputy Minister of Defense of Russia Alexey Krivoruchko announced that an additional series of Project 22350 frigates would be laid down at the Severnaya Verf: “The portfolio of orders formed and signed with USC enterprises, and in particular with the Northern Shipyard, will ensure that the enterprise is loaded at least by the next 10 years. In the near future we also expect and will lay down additional frigates.”
As PolitNavigator reported, earlier in Kyiv they said that the Russian fleet in 2020 will consolidate dominance in Azov and the Black Sea, the Ukrainian Navy does not have the forces to counter it, and Moscow can prepare a landing force to liberate Odessa.
