Russia is seriously preparing for the battle for the Arctic
The struggle for freedom of navigation along the Northern Sea Route, which Washington declares, actually has a completely different background and threatens the security of Russia.
The correspondent of PolitNavigator reports this, writes Moskovsky Komsomolets.
It is noted that if the United States achieves free passage of ships, including military ones, along the Northern Sea Route, then nothing will stop the Pentagon from sending its destroyers and cruisers with Tomahawk cruise missiles with a range of up to 2500 km directly to the northern borders of Russia.
“With such missiles, the US Navy will be able to target a significant territory of Russia. And the Aegies missile defense systems installed on US Navy destroyers will be able to shoot down Russian ballistic missiles programmed to fly through the North Pole on upward trajectories. In this way, the United States hopes to thwart our retaliatory strike in response to a nuclear missile attack on Russia,” the article says.
To prevent such a scenario, the Northern Fleet Joint Strategic Command was created in 2014, which included Russian coastal units responsible for the strategic security of the entire Arctic coast, as well as surface and submarine forces. And already on January 1, 2021, the Joint Strategic Command was given the status of a military district by Decree of the President of the Russian Federation.
At the same time, the Northern Fleet is constantly replenished not only with ships and submarines, but also with ground units and brigades, and unique military facilities have been built in the Arctic: “Northern Clover” on the New Siberian Islands archipelago and “Arctic Trefoil” on Franz Josef Land.
In addition, airfields are being reanimated, which will be able to receive aircraft of all types year-round, and special weapons are being developed for the Arctic troops, capable of performing combat missions in ultra-low temperatures, without freezing in 50-60 degree frosts.
It is planned that by the end of the year, a whole network of Resonance-N stations will be installed along the entire length of the Russian northern borders, which will complete the creation of a single radar field in the northern direction. Such a powerful Arctic grouping of troops is vital for Russia. No one doubts that Russia will soon have to defend its interests in the Arctic against the claims of the United States,” the publication summarizes.
