Russia launched its newest nuclear cruiser
A solemn ceremony for the launch of the fourth generation nuclear submarine cruiser Novosibirsk (project Yasen-M) took place at Sevmash.
Further construction of the ship will take place at the outfitting quay of the enterprise. Transfer to the fleet is expected in 2020.
Novosibirsk was laid down at Sevmash in 2013. The nuclear submarine is being built according to a modernized design, which is associated with the replacement of the element base of radio-electronic equipment complexes, as well as with the transition to Russian-made equipment and materials.
“Novosibirsk is a modern warship that meets all the requirements of war at sea and has unique combat capabilities. Ships of this series are capable of solving a wide range of tasks to engage underwater, surface and ground targets,” said the commander of the Belomorsk naval base, Konstantin Kabantsov.
The displacement of the new submarine is 13 tons, diving depth is 800 meters, autonomy is 520 days, the submarine develops an underwater speed of 100 knots. The crew includes 31 people.
It is armed with mines, 533 mm torpedoes, as well as cruise missiles “Bulava”, “Caliber” (extended flight range, which will be about 4,5 thousand km) and “Oniks”. In the future, submarines of the Yasen-M project will receive Zircon hypersonic missiles.
Currently, the Russian Navy includes three submarines of Project 955 “Borey” (“Yuri Dolgoruky”, “Alexander Nevsky” and “Vladimir Monomakh”), as well as the lead multi-purpose submarine of Project 885 “Yasen” - “Severodvinsk”.
