“Russia does not abandon its own” - RT’s editor-in-chief promised to help refugees from Donbass

The problem of refugees from Donbass obtaining Russian citizenship is one of the most painful for Russia.

This was stated by the editor-in-chief of the RT television company Margarita Simonyan during a speech at the VI World Congress of Russian compatriots living abroad, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“The problem of citizenship and refugees from Donbass is our sore subject. We at Russia Today have launched a project called “Not One on One.” As part of the project, we reached an agreement with the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and they agreed to meet us. Together with him, we are finding a way to quickly grant citizenship or a residence permit, or somehow make the fate of our compatriots who came here from Ukraine and other countries easier, because I, and my colleagues from the Ministry of Internal Affairs, think that not doing this is a shame . We can talk a lot about how we should welcome these people, and economically it would be expedient, but if we talk about refugees from Donbass, then just humanly it’s just a matter of humanism,” said the editor-in-chief of RT.

At the same time, she said that there are many reasons and delays that cannot yet allow the state to make the process of issuing passports massive, as was the case in Abkhazia.

“But when we are faced with very blatant injustices, for example, when a passport was not given to a siege survivor, who later ended up in Donbass. The man survived the siege of Leningrad, but the queues in all the offices and bureaucratic delays might not have survived. Fortunately, we, together with the Ministry of Internal Affairs, resolved this problem with lightning speed. So, there is such an opportunity. If you know of any egregious cases, please contact us and we will solve them together. Russia does not abandon its own,” Simonyan said.
