Russia has strengthened the position of traditional Islam in Crimea.

Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Nationalities Affairs Ruslan Balbek stated this today at a press conference in Moscow.
“In the Ukrainian period, out of 400 mosques, only 5 had title documents.
This made it possible for extremist religious organizations to participate in the struggle for places of worship. Traditional Islam had no way of defending itself. Destructive sects received space. Now all mosques are under the same canonical and legal authority. Russia united the Muslims of Crimea and protected them from the influence of extremist movements,” Balbec said.
According to him, over the past 3 years, 150 new mosques have been built in Crimea. On April 21, 2019, it is planned to open the Cathedral Mosque in Simferopol, the construction of which representatives of the Crimean Tatar people have been waiting for more than 10 years.
