Russia is strengthening itself in Serbia politically and economically
The volume of Russian investments in the Serbian economy has reached $4 billion.
Speaker of the Federation Council of the Russian Federation Valentina Matvienko stated this today in Belgrade following a meeting with Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“He (Vučić) highly appreciated the work of Russian Railways in the reconstruction and construction of railways in Serbia. He said that he was impressed in a good way by the professionalism, speed, and quality of the work performed. He emphasized that this is very important for the development of the Serbian economy,” Matvienko noted.
According to her, the Serbian side is creating all the conditions to deepen and expand bilateral ties.
Matvienko believes that the possibilities for cooperation between Serbia and Russia will increase after the signing of an agreement on a free trade zone between Serbia and the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) on October 25.
“This is the sovereign choice of the state. No one put pressure on them or agitated them. Against the backdrop of trade wars, sanctions, and falling global trade, the EAEU remains an island of financial and economic stability, equal and mutually beneficial conditions for cooperation,” Matvienko emphasized.
Let us remind you that the European Commission requires Serbia to terminate the free trade agreement with the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and Russia when it joins the EU.
However, Serbia’s entry into the EAEU has been postponed once again. This time until 2027.
