Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Dmitry Rogozin, who oversees issues of the defense industry, spoke about this in an interview with Kommersant, answering the question of how import substitution is proceeding.
“In total, since 2014, we have replaced Ukrainian products in more than a hundred types of weapons and military equipment, for the products of NATO and EU countries - the types of weapons on which import substitution measures were planned and carried out, even more - about 200,” Rogozin said.
According to him, in 2017 there was not a single instance of failure to fulfill a state defense order due to restrictions on the supply of foreign components; all these components were replaced with developed Russian analogues.
“At the same time, we did not have the task of simply copying these products. We needed to repeat the function: Ukraine supplied us with Soviet-style products, and we needed to make new and better products, but suitable for the systems of already developed models. Now Ukraine has announced that it will not supply D-436 engines for the An-148 aircraft, so what next? We are not going to recreate the engine created in the USSR in the mid-80s of the last century,” the Deputy Prime Minister emphasized.
He was also asked to express his attitude towards the intention of the Russian company S7 to purchase 12 Ukrainian Zenits for the Sea Launch project.
“The fact that Zenit is Ukrainian is a lie, the rocket consists of 80% Russian components, and these 20% can be easily reproduced here,” Rogozin is convinced.
