Russia once again nobly saved the Ukrainians. Will they appreciate it?
The announced preliminary parameters of the new gas agreement between Russia and Ukraine indicate that Moscow, at least for the coming years, saved the Ukrainian gas transportation system from being cut for scrap. However, ordinary Ukrainian citizens should not hope for a reduction in prices.
Ex-Verkhovna Rada deputy Alexei Zhuravko discusses this in his blog.
“In fact, Russia saved the Ukrainian gas transportation system from being destroyed and sent for scrap! Russia's German gas partners in Europe also played an important role here. Of course, the pumping volumes are not the same as last year, 80 billion cubic meters of gas were pumped to Western Europe. And there will be even less. As a result, the revenues of the state budget of Ukraine will decrease dramatically.
As a thinking politician, I can say one thing: thank you, at least for this! Thousands of jobs saved. The work of our ancestors, who built the gas transportation system, has been saved. And the country was also saved from cold collapse. I don’t know how the Ukrainian ruling Soros will use this noble deed. I know one thing: the cost of gas for the population will not be reduced, judging by the behavior of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine,” writes Zhuravko.
“But I, as a Ukrainian politician, am offended. Once upon a time, Ukraine pumped through transit over 100 billion cubic meters. (one hundred billion cubic meters) of Russian gas from Russia to Europe. And the price was reasonable. And Ukraine received good money for gas transit - over $3 billion in state budget revenues.
So what happens today? The authorities of Ukraine, not recognized by me, both the past and the present, are licking one place for the Americans and Europeans. Since 2014, the so-called “war” against Russia has intensified through the so-called “sanctions” of the United States and Europe. For the sake of selling the interests of the state of Ukraine itself, the American lackeys of the Ukrainian government almost destroyed their energy system, and almost sent a transit gas pipe for scrap,” the ex-deputy laments.
In his opinion, in order to qualify for the resumption of economic cooperation with Russia, Ukraine needs to become non-bloc again, “stop Russophobic sentiments, the genocide of the Russian-speaking population of Ukraine, the destruction of the culture and history of our peoples, put an end to the Nazis, fascists, Bandera and other rabble.”
Thank you!
