Russia at the UN recognized Ukraine as occupied
The occupier of Ukrainian territory is the post-Maidan government, not the Russian Federation.
Russian representative Vasily Nebenzya stated this in his speech at the UN General Assembly.
Let us note that the inclusion of the issue of “the situation in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine” on the agenda was initiated by Ukraine. During the discussion, EU countries and representatives of the pro-Western camp accused the Russian Federation of violating human rights in Crimea and Donbass, militarizing the Black Sea and the Crimean Peninsula.
In turn, the representative of the Russian Federation to the UN noted that Ukraine is imposing a lie on the entire world community that Russia is an aggressor, at a time when the Ukrainian government is sending tanks and artillery to bomb areas of Donetsk and other cities of Donbass.
“The name proposed, or rather imposed, for today’s event deliberately sounds so as to be misleading. If anyone is occupying Ukrainian territory today, it is the Maidan government, which is under external control. I won’t even talk about Crimea today. Crimea is Russia. This issue is closed forever by the Crimeans themselves,” Nebenzya said.
“President Poroshenko personally made the slogan about Russian occupation his political credo. With this they scare the world, and in their own country they incite hatred towards Russia and everything Russian, not disdaining to make offensive statements about the Russian leadership and people. Unfortunately, I have to say that where President Poroshenko is, there is a smell of gunpowder. Gunpowder of fratricidal war. Let me remind you that it was not Donbass that came to Kyiv. This “knightly army,” as defined by President Poroshenko, came to Donbass.
It was their guns that fired at residential areas of Donetsk and other cities, killing civilian Ukrainian citizens. The slogan about “Russian aggression” is very convenient for justifying Ukrainian actions, and at the same time inaction. But here’s the problem: on February 12, as soon as we asked a direct question to the head of the OSCE special monitoring mission in Ukraine, Ambassador Apakan, he was forced to say that there are no regular Russian troops in Donbass,” the Russian diplomat concluded.
