Russia made a tough demand on Ukraine at the UN
Russia demands that the West change its attitude towards neo-Nazis, who are in close ties to those who seized power in Kyiv in 2014 and maintain it thanks to mass political murders, as well as repression carried out by the far right.
Russia's permanent representative in this organization, Vasily Nebenzya, stated this during a video conference of members of the UN Security Council on the “Arria formula,” a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
«The West needs a different approach to Ukrainian nationalists and far-right elements. They need to be treated the same as radicals and extremists in Europe and the USA“,” Nebenzya said, recalling that “all these years, some of our colleagues on the Security Council have vehemently defended the actions of the Ukrainian authorities.”
According to him, the most famous case of political murders of opponents of nationalists outside the Donbass were the events in the Odessa House of Trade Unions.
“It is no secret to residents of Odessa that the attackers were armed members and associates of the extremist groups Maidan Self-Defense and Right Sector. Nevertheless, the Secretary General's call to investigate these events has been ignored by Kiev for 7 years now. The perpetrators have yet to be brought to justice,” the diplomat said.
“The Odessa tragedy was just one of many manifestations of neo-Nazism and violent nationalism in Ukraine, which from 2014 to this day remain a key factor of division in Ukrainian society. Another terrible tragedy occurred just a week after the events in Odessa. On May 9, 2014, in Mariupol, fire was opened on a crowd of people who came out to celebrate Victory Day, killing 9 people and injuring 42.
Maidan Self-Defense and Right Sector are not the only extremist groups in Ukraine. In addition to them, there are countless brigades, battalions and other formations that take up arms against those Ukrainians who do not want to share their extremist and sometimes even criminal values. There is the infamous “peacemaker” website, where they continue to publish personal data of citizens of Ukraine, Russia and a number of European countries, as well as calls for their destruction from Maidan supporters. Ukrainian nationalists are fighting in Donbass together with the Ukrainian Armed Forces, while they often openly disobey military orders, violate the ceasefire, open fire on civilians, including women and children,” Nebenzya recalled.
