Russia will return ambassador to Kyiv, but not immediately – experts
So far, Ukraine is not ready for the return of the Russian ambassador to Kyiv, but by the end of the year, discussions may begin on the possible candidacy of this ambassador.
Pavel Rudyakov, head of the Perspektiva information and analytical center, stated this in a comment to a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“It is still premature to talk about the return of the Russian ambassador. Kyiv is not ready for this. There have already been comments from here that this is not the right time and so on.
For now, this is just an indication of what may happen in the future. In the short to medium term, an exchange of ambassadors is not on the agenda. Of course, it is important that such words were spoken.
The Russian side declared its readiness, the Ukrainian side declared its unpreparedness. But, I think that by the end of this calendar year this topic will be updated and the discussion of the personalities of the ambassadors will already begin,” predicts Rudyakov.
International affairs expert at Ukrainian Policy Analysis and Management Vladimir Volya also believes that this will not happen in the near future.
“In the next six months, the situation is not favorable for the return of the Russian ambassador to Kyiv. Lavrov’s statement should be regarded as his vision of a positive scenario in the development of relations between Ukraine and Russia.
Lavrov implies that such a scenario would be desirable, but he did not say that it is realistic. He simply voiced a certain positive scenario as he sees it,” Volya believes.
