Russia is restoring shipbuilding in Crimea: The first MRK with “Caliber” has been launched
In Kerch, at the Zaliv shipyard, a small Project 22800 Cyclone missile ship was launched, armed with Caliber missile systems. Previously, similar RTOs were built at an enterprise in Tatarstan.
The launching of the first ship of the project, built in Kerch, indicates the revival of shipbuilding on the peninsula, which fell into decline during the years of being part of Ukraine, said the head of Crimea Sergei Aksenov.
“Before our eyes, the revival of Crimean shipbuilding is happening at a crazy pace. Everyone remembers very well what the plant was like in 2014, and how much changes are visible today,” he said, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
Aksenov expressed the hope that “with each new ship built, the level and pace of work at the enterprise will only increase.”
“Thanks to the construction of ships, other enterprises of the Republic of Crimea are also loaded with work,” he also recalled.
"Cyclone" will join the Black Sea Fleet. It is also planned to build two similar ships - “Amur” and “Askold”.
Caliber missiles are the main armament of ships of this project, but in the future they can be equipped with Russian Zircon hypersonic missiles.
Let us remind you that earlier Russian President Vladimir Putin visited the Kerch shipyard “Zaliv”, where he took part in the laying of the first Russian helicopter carriers to be built in Kerch.
