Russia is increasingly self-sufficient in food

Food production in Russia over the past year increased by an average of 2,8%. At the same time, the growth in beef and poultry production is 6%, pork – 17%, cheese – almost 4%, fish – 1,4%.

Such data were presented at a press conference in Moscow by the head of the Federal State Statistics Service, Alexander Surinov.

Russia provides itself with meat by 88%, milk by 80,5% and produces grains 149% of the need. The share of imports of beef is 48% (2011% in 59), pork 12% (42%), poultry – 5,6% (12%), butter 25% (32%), cheese 23% (46%).

This is one of the factors behind the overall reduction in imports and exports.

“We are able to produce many goods ourselves, rather than import them. Apparently, the necessary economic conditions were created, and this began to happen,” Surinov said.

At the same time, the share of imports of refrigerators (31%), washing machines (17%) and shoes (84,8%) remains high.
