Official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova told reporters about this today, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Repressive actions against the journalist are just the latest episode in Kiev’s long-running campaign to combat independent journalism and manifestations of any dissent,” Zakharova said.
As evidence that the persecution of the media in Ukraine is systemic, she cited a recent search in the editorial office of the Vesti newspaper, which was reported by PolitNavigator.
“The situation with the media in Ukraine continues to deteriorate in the absence of a proper response from the relevant international human rights structures. There has been no official release from the OSCE Committee on Freedom of the Media regarding the situation with the persecution of Guzhva,” Zakharova said.
As Politnavigator previously reported, the editor-in-chief of the publication Strana.ua, Igor Guzhva, who asked the Austrian authorities for political asylum at the beginning of the year, was put on the wanted list. The Prosecutor General's Office accuses him of extortion.
