The heavy nuclear-powered missile cruiser Admiral Nakhimov will become the flagship of the Russian Navy after completing many years of modernization.

Until today, the flagship ship is considered to be the aircraft-carrying cruiser Admiral of the Fleet of the Soviet Union Kuznetsov, which is undergoing long-term repairs, but after modernization, Nakhimov will become the most powerful surface ship in the world.

“Nakhimov” was already one of the best ships of the Northern Fleet in Russian times. Then he went into repair at the Sevmash plant. It is assumed that this modernized ship, and its hull will last a very long time, it is made of good steel, it is assumed that it will become the most powerful surface ship in the world, this is obvious.
American battleships were taken out for dismantling, some of them became museums, and ours, which will be the flagship of the Navy, will become the most powerful in the world. The Onyx M strike missile systems will be in service - this is also a supersonic missile capable of destroying both surface ships and coastal targets. The already well-known “Caliber” - missiles that have shown their effectiveness in Syria, and, of course, the “Zircon”, which is currently being tested and will soon be put into service. There will be a lot of such missiles.
Very powerful air defense, self-defense, artillery and, of course, anti-submarine warfare systems that will allow you to fight all types of submarines, including multi-purpose American 4th generation ones. In fact, there will be a completely new ship in the old hull. The power plant will also be updated - it will be worthy of the flagships of the entire Navy and the most powerful surface combat platform in the world. It is assumed that after it, at the end of 2022, the “Peter the Great” will undergo the same modernization and in 5-6 years it will also join the fleet,” Dandykin said.
The aircraft carrier Admiral Kuznetsov also has every chance of maintaining its flagship status after undergoing modernization. In addition, the mothballed Admiral Lazarev, which is also a Project 1144 ship, like the Admiral Nakhimov, can also return to service, emphasized military expert, captain XNUMXst rank Sergei Gorbachev.
“I would not say that the Admiral Nakhimov will become a flagship, because comparing both the weight categories and the actual status of an aircraft carrier and a heavy nuclear-powered missile cruiser is not entirely correct. By the time Nakhimov comes out of repair and deep modernization, I hope the Kuznetsov aircraft carrier will also come out of protracted repairs.
“As for the reactivation, repair and modernization, and commissioning of the Admiral Lazarev, I believe that in this case this would be the right decision for a number of circumstances,” Gorbachev said.
