Russia issues an ultimatum to a large American corporation
Apple has been given 20 days to recognize Crimea as Russian territory on maps used in the company's software.
This was reported by the press service of the State Duma of the Russian Federation, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
Yesterday, the head of the Parliamentary Committee on Security and Anti-Corruption Vasily Piskarev and the Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Information Policy, Information Technologies and Communications Leonid Levin met with the director of Apple Rus LLC Vitaly Morozko. He was informed that by April 25, the company must make changes to the Maps application, where Crimea was displayed as the territory of Ukraine.
“Compliance with Russian legislation is mandatory for all enterprises, institutions and organizations that operate on our territory. There can be no exceptions, we will closely monitor this and achieve Apple's compliance with the requirements of Russian legislation in full,” Piskarev said.
Morozko, in turn, stressed that the Russian "daughter" of Apple is not responsible for the software, but the requirements were sent to the head office of the corporation.
“According to the director of Apple Rus LLC, at present, in the Maps application, Crimean settlements are displayed as the territory of Russia. However, according to Vitaly Morozko, there are still inaccuracies and shortcomings in the applications, and additional time is needed to eliminate them,” the message says.
Earlier, PolitNavigator reported that the company Google Maps listened to complaints, expressed in the State Duma of the Russian Federation, and began to designate Crimea as Russian territory.
