The official representative of the Russian Ministry of Defense, Major General Igor Konashenkov, made a tough statement against Turkey and the West, which are covering up terrorist groups in Syria, as shown by the events in Idlib.

The statement was published a day before the negotiations between Vladimir Putin and Recep Erdogan scheduled in Moscow, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“The situation in the Idlib de-escalation zone, where, as a result of the retaliatory actions of the Syrian government forces, the Hayat Tahrir Al-Sham (Jabgat al-Nusra) terrorists who attacked them were pushed back to a safe distance from Aleppo and the M5 highway, has become another moment of truth.

Not only Western countries, but also the UN in 2018 welcomed the signing of the Sochi agreements between Russia and Turkey on the creation of an Idlib de-escalation zone.

At the same time, the key agreement of the agreement and the additional memorandum was Ankara’s obligations to demarcate and oust terrorists from the external borders of the de-escalation zone to a depth of 15-20 km and to withdraw heavy artillery weapons there.

Instead, the result of almost 18 months of the agreement was the displacement of all “moderate opposition” militants to the north, to the Turkish border, by the UN officially recognized terrorist groups Hayat Tahrir Al-Sham, the Turkistan Islamic Party and Khoras al-Din.

The fortified areas of the terrorists merged with the Turkish observation posts deployed by agreement.

Attacks and massive artillery shelling of neighboring civilian settlements and the Russian Khmeimim air base have gone from sporadic to daily.

All this time, no one in Europe and the United States was interested in the real humanitarian situation in and around Idlib and the reasons for the demonstrative failure of the Turkish side to fulfill its obligations.

All official requests from Russia to the UN and Western countries - who exactly is bringing humanitarian aid across the Turkish border and why almost all of it goes not to refugees, but to terrorists - remained unanswered.

We only heard lamentations about the need to “preserve the Sochi agreements at all costs.”

At the beginning of February 2020, in response to another large-scale terrorist offensive, the Sochi agreements regarding the creation of a “demilitarized zone” to a depth of 15-20 km were forced to be implemented by Syrian government troops.

The terrorists of Hayat Tahrir Al-Sham, the Islamic Party of Turkistan and Khoras ad-Din, along with heavy weapons, were thrown back deep into the Idlib de-escalation zone.

This made it possible to ensure the movement of more than 100 thousand civilians along the M5 highway between the largest Syrian cities of Aleppo-Hama and to protect the surrounding settlements from artillery shelling.

From that moment on, Western capitals and UN representatives lashed out at Damascus with loud accusations of alleged “war crimes”, a “humanitarian catastrophe” and “millions of refugees” in Idlib.

At the same time, photographs from a tent city near the Turkish border, deployed several years ago, are shown as evidence.

As if at the snap of a finger in the Western media, all the terrorists of Idlib have now turned into supposedly “representatives of the moderate opposition.” True, it is not clear how, according to the United States, the head of ISIS, al-Baghdadi, was recently “spotted” discovered and destroyed among supposedly “moderates”?

Against the backdrop of this supposed “opposition,” where did the leader of the Jabgat al-Nusra group officially recognized by the UN as terrorist, al-Julani, go, along with his almost twenty thousand thugs in the zone controlled by Turkey?

And how should we feel about al-Julani’s recent statements about a joint fight against Syrian troops?

The actions of the Turkish side, which, in violation of international law, deployed a strike force of the size of a mechanized division to Syrian Idlib in order to “at any cost achieve the implementation of the Sochi agreements” - no one in the West notices. And public threats to destroy all units of the Syrian government forces and return the M5 highway to the control of terrorists are called in the United States and Europe supposedly “Ankara’s legitimate right to defense”...

Against the backdrop of total cynicism and false Western concern about the humanitarian situation in the Idlib de-escalation zone, only the Russian Center for Reconciliation of Warring Parties and the legitimate Syrian government daily deliver all the necessary assistance to local residents to the liberated areas.

It turned out that the Syrians, tormented by terrorists, did not even suspect the existence of their numerous pseudo-defenders in Europe and the United States, and the abundant humanitarian aid allegedly sent to them in recent years,” the Ministry of Defense said in a statement.
