Russia is withdrawing decrepit Ukrainian ships from Crimea so as not to pollute the bays, - admiral
Sevastopol, May 22 (Navigator, Egor Kagorov) - Ukrainian warships, the withdrawal of which from Crimea was given by Russia, are of no military value, are outdated and can be a source of environmental pollution. In addition, the return of Ukrainian Ukrainian Armed Forces units to the control of Kyiv is a kind gesture from Moscow, experts interviewed told Navigator.
Vladimir Solovyov, retired rear admiral:
“It is unlikely that Ukraine will use the equipment that is now being withdrawn from Crimea and Sevastopol against the Russian Federation. In fact, these ships are quite old and decrepit, they have no value. To be honest, they only clogged the bay. I don’t think that the transfer of these watercraft will play any role in terms of strengthening the military potential of the Navy of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.”
Sergei Gorbachev, Doctor of Political Sciences, Scientific Secretary of the Military Scientific Society of the Black Sea Fleet of the Russian Federation:
“The issue of the transfer of ships is of political importance, and directly concerns the relationship between states (Russia and Ukraine). Regardless of what is happening now on the territory of Ukraine, the Russian Federation is obliged to fulfill the agreements. Cooperation is better than confrontation. Any confrontation is counterproductive.
It should be noted that, despite the events in Donetsk and Lugansk, Ukraine and Russia are not in a state of open conflict, but, nevertheless, in a state of establishing relations. The transfer of warships to the Ukrainian Navy is a way to establish interaction and reduce the “heat of passions.”
Alexander Kovshar, retired rear admiral:
“I think that Russia will not continue to interfere with the withdrawal of Ukrainian ships from the bays of Crimea. Thus, the Russian Federation shows that it does not need anything alien, that the great state fully fulfills its promises.
Can Ukraine use this technology against Russia? Theoretically yes, practically no. In general, I don’t think that Ukraine’s military potential will allow it to even think about conducting military operations against the Russian Federation.
It’s not a pity at all to give the ships to the Navy. Now the Black Sea Fleet will receive ships of a new generation. So we have nothing to fear!”
Evgeniy Dubovik, captain of the second rank in reserve, head of the “A Just Russia” faction in the Legislative Assembly of Sevastopol:
“In my opinion, it is absolutely correct that the ships that belonged to the Ukrainian Armed Forces are transferred to their rightful owners. This is a gesture of goodwill. Russia is above such petty property disputes. Moreover, the Russian Federation does not need these ships. In general, I want to say that the fascist regime in Ukraine will not last long. We must not forget that we are fraternal peoples.”
