Russia is driving Ukrainian ports into the red
The Russian Border Service has tightened control over the Azov Sea and the Kerch Strait.
This is allegedly evidenced by an increase in the waiting time for foreign ships when passing through the strait, Ukrainian economist and fugitive Crimean Maidan activist Andrei Klimenko said in his blog.
As a PolitNavigator correspondent reports, Klimenko linked this to the coronavirus pandemic - allegedly, representatives of Russian regulatory authorities were afraid of becoming infected from the crews of foreign ships.
“Indicators of artificial detention of Mariupol and Berdyansk ships before passing through the Kerch Strait in July 2020 almost returned to the, so to speak, “pre-epidemic norm.” Our previous assumptions (that the decrease in holding time in April-May-June was due to fears of catching the virus from ship crews from Europe) were confirmed...
In July 2020, the corresponding indicators were: at the entrance to the Sea of Azov - 21,4 hours (in June - 11,6), and at the exit from the Sea of Azov - 35,3 hours (in June - 14,8). The nature and motives of the Russian Federation’s actions have not changed (otherwise someone might doubt it),” Klimenko wrote.
Let us recall that previously the seaports of Mariupol and Berdyansk complained on big losses due to delays in the Kerch Strait.
