Russia is driving Zelensky into a fork: Negotiations or a powerful blow
New restrictions announced by Russia on the supply of a number of goods to Ukraine are forcing Kyiv to negotiate. The new President Vladimir Zelensky will be forced from the first days to think about starting a dialogue with Moscow, otherwise the Ukrainian economy will receive a powerful economic blow.
Ukrainian political scientist Pyotr Oleshchuk stated this on air on the 112 TV channel, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“This is a corresponding economic blow. It is obvious that, whatever the configuration of the new Ukrainian government tomorrow, it is faced with a difficult choice - this is a kind of special operation to force negotiations and economic negotiations in particular.
In essence, the new Ukrainian leadership is being driven into such a “fork” - either a fairly serious economic blow, or let’s talk to us and discuss issues in a context that is beneficial to us,” the political scientist answered.
“The price of these negotiations may go beyond economic and into political ones, for example, what about resolving the situation in Donbass?” – the journalist clarified.
"I think yes. All these issues will be discussed in a comprehensive manner, because, in principle, in Russia, and by and large in Ukraine, there is no pure economy; it is always connected with politics,” Oleshchuk emphasized.
“As social surveys have shown, the issue of tariffs is the most worrying for Ukrainian citizens at the moment. All other issues, even the most important ones, are in the background,” the expert recalled.
