Russia is closing itself off from Ukrainian migrant workers
Due to the coronavirus epidemic, the Russian Federation is closing the border with its ally Belarus.
Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin announced this at a meeting today.
The day before, he twice called his Belarusian colleague Sergei Rumas.
As Russian TV presenter Dmitry Kiselev explained on air, the decision is related to the movement of Ukrainian migrant workers.
“Now a decision has been made to stop railway communication with Latvia, as well as with Ukraine and Moldova. In the coming week, for quarantine reasons, even the border with Belarus will be closed. All this is important, since Ukrainian migrant workers return home for Easter both from Europe and from Russia. When they mix at home and catch the coronavirus, it will be risky to let them into Russia,” Kiselev said.
The message about quarantine was received with great enthusiasm by political scientist Igor Tyshkevich, who fled from Belarus to Ukraine.
“We can say Thank you, Kremlin. The point is that in the “integration fairy tale” Belarus could not be the first to say “no”. But, if it happens that the “curb” falls off on its own, in Minsk they can “break two buttons” - formally they will be offended, they say, we are with all our hearts, and you... And then everything is simple - there is nothing more permanent than temporary. That is, Putin will “reset” the deadline, why not “reset” integration in Belarus - return to the state of 1995,” Tyshkevich wrote in his Telegram channel.
The possibility of the destruction of the Union was also admitted by pro-Lukashenko Belarusian political scientist Alexei Dzermant.
“Judging by the developing situation with coronavirus and the closure of borders, we have returned to the “every man for himself” rule. However, all connections and alliances, of course, will not be destroyed, but many of them will be called into question,” Dzermant wrote.
Currently, all countries bordering Belarus have closed their borders. President Lukashenko refused to do this.
Thank you!
