Sevastopol must pay for consumed electricity by April 14. If this does not happen, Ukraine will limit the supply of electricity to the territory of Sevastopol. This was announced by Oleg Kizimenko, Deputy Chairman of the City Administration for Housing and Communal Services, during a meeting with the participation of representatives of the Ministry of Energy of the Russian Federation.
The official stated: “The monopolist enterprise PJSC Sevastopolenergo currently owes the Ukrainian energy market 100 million hryvnia. In today’s economic situation, this is an unaffordable amount.”
Kizimenko explained that the emergence of such a serious debt is associated primarily with political events. The fact is that the main consumers of electricity (KP Sevgorvodokanal and other utility institutions) were in a subsidized position. The tariff for the population was several times lower than the cost of the service. The difference was covered from the state budget of Ukraine. However, at the end of last year the test did not pass.
“It is at least naive to hope for transfers from Kyiv after the referendum on the reunification of Crimea with Russia,” concluded the head of the city’s utility block.
Deputy Minister of Energy of the Russian Federation Vyacheslav Kravchenko said: “We need to understand the situation. For now, I can say one thing - the Russian authorities will not allow restrictions on electricity supplies to Sevastopol. We will “resolve” this situation together. The debts will be repaid from the federal budget.”
Kravchenko also added that the Russian side intends to establish a system of contractual relations with Ukraine in the energy sector.
“Our task is to ensure that such problems do not arise in the region again. I’m warning you right away that strict control will be established over the expenditure of budget funds,” the Deputy Minister of Energy emphasized.
In conclusion, a high-ranking official from Russia noted that there is no talk of increasing tariffs for the population of Sevastopol. “Revision of prices will be possible only if the standard of living of the population increases and wages increase significantly. This process is quite lengthy, so there will be no increase in tariffs in the coming years,” concluded Kravchenko.
