Russia has flooded Ukraine with claims for bank debts in Crimea

In April-May, the State Fund for the Protection of Depositors filed more than 12 thousand claims against Ukrainian banks that stopped working in Crimea in 2014, writes the RBC Daily newspaper.

The large number of lawsuits filed in the spring may be due to the expiration of the statute of limitations for such claims - according to the general rule of civil law, it is three years, according to experts interviewed by the publication.

As the newspaper writes, it is possible that “the real purpose of these claims is their subsequent use in political negotiations in the event of a discussion of the option of mutual nullification of the claims of Ukraine and Russia.”

As is known, the Ukrainian side also previously filed lawsuits against the Russian Federation, demanding compensation for lost property in Crimea.
