Russia announced unfriendly actions of Latvia
The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova expressed “deep regret” about the decision of Latvian President Raimonds Vējonis, who signed the law adopted by the Latvian Seimas banning education in the Russian language in the country.
“We cannot help but be concerned about the steps of the Latvian ethnocracy to forcibly squeeze out the Russian language from all spheres of public life of the republic, which are inconsistent with the principles and norms of a number of international legal acts,” Zakharova said today.
According to her, the Russian Foreign Ministry has repeatedly drawn the attention of international relevant structures to the discriminatory policy of the Latvian authorities towards Russians, who make up a significant part of the population of Latvia, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We continue to expect an adequate response from them. Of course, we will also take into account these unfriendly actions of Riga in the context of our bilateral relations,” Zakharova said.
