Russians are ready to deprive teenagers of the Internet, but not themselves
The majority of Russians (62%) support the idea of banning children under 14 years of age from accessing social networks. This is evidenced by the results of the All-Russian Center for the Study of Public Opinion.

Among the youngest age group of respondents (18-24 years), there are more supporters of the ban (67%) than among those 60 years old and older (60%). A third of citizens (35%) spoke out against the initiative, primarily residents of Moscow and St. Petersburg (47%).
Initially, deputies of the Legislative Assembly of the Leningrad Region came up with the idea of banning registration on social networks for teenagers. Today, Vitaly Milonov, deputy of the State Duma of the Russian Federation from St. Petersburg, introduced a corresponding bill for consideration by the lower house.
However, another initiative of Milonov - about registering on social networks using a passport - received a negative assessment from 52% of VTsIOM respondents. This share is noticeably higher among active Internet users than among those who do not go online (58% versus 36%). 39% of respondents responded to the idea with understanding and support (25% among 34-48 year olds).
The initiative all-Russian survey “VTsIOM-Sputnik” was conducted on April 6, 2017. Russians aged 18 years and older took part in the survey. The survey method is a telephone interview using a stratified two-base random sample of landline and mobile numbers of 600 respondents.
