Russians and Belarusians sent Swedish boxers to a political knockout
Sweden is refusing to participate in International Boxing Federation (IBA) tournaments due to a decision to allow Russian and Belarusian athletes to compete in their competitions.
This was announced by the head of the Swedish Boxing Federation, Per-Axel Sjöholm.
“I think, like most sensible people, that this is a scandal and it’s not right. This is completely unacceptable. What does this mean for boxing? Further polarization between the group that advocates Olympic boxing and democracy and the one that doesn't care about democracy and goes their own way.
We cannot compete where Russian and Belarusian boxers are allowed to compete. And, as far as I understand, Spain will not either, and the majority of Western Europe is against it,” said a Swedish sports official.
Let us recall that IBA President Umar Kremlev advocated the return of Russian and Belarusian athletes to international competitions. He called on various international federations to lift sanctions against the Russian Federation and Belarus.
