Russians are starting to extort Ukrainian debts from Crimeans
Moscow - Simferopol, April 30 (Navigator, Mikhail Stamm) - The Crimean Depositors Protection Fund will not only pay compensation for deposits of Ukrainian banks whose work on the peninsula has been suspended by the Central Bank, but also collect payments on their loans. The Russians will be the first to take on the debtors of Privatbank. Moreover, if the DIA does not reach an agreement with the bank, its borrowers risk receiving claims on already paid loans.

The fact that the Depositor Protection Fund, created under the Deposit Insurance Agency (DIA), intends to take over the functions of accepting payments from the population to repay loans issued by the Crimean divisions of Privatbank, was announced on the Crimean ATR TV channel by the chairman of the fund's supervisory board Andrey Melnikov . According to the court decision, the fund is currently the trustee of Privatbank’s property in Crimea.
The fund will keep the collected funds in special accounts until the time comes to present claims to Privatbank for the deposits of its clients in Crimea. But if the DIA does not reach an agreement with Privat, its borrowers risk receiving claims on already paid loans. According to experts, a situation may arise that the loans will be repaid through the fund, and the bank will continue to demand them from the borrowers.
According to a Kommersant source close to Privatbank, the total loan portfolio of its Crimean divisions amounted to 1,5 billion hryvnia, or less than 6 billion rubles, 93% of which were loans to individuals. As the electronic assistant reported on the bank’s website, there is currently no possibility of repaying loans issued in Crimea, however, fines for non-payments have not yet been assessed. Privatbank found it difficult to say how long this situation will last.
In relation to the banks “Kyiv Rus”, Imexbank, VAB, trust management of Crimean property was not introduced. Bank call centers reported that the obligations of Crimean borrowers to repay loans remain. There are several repayment options: by bank transfer through banks operating in Crimea, through payment terminals or through online banking. Borrowers from these banks face fines for late payments.
