Russians chipped in for a “national pension” for a refugee from Donbass
Residents of the village of Sholokhovsky in the Rostov region pay a “people’s pension” for the Great Patriotic War veteran Raisa Shuval, who fled from Lugansk.
This was reported by the online publication Mash.
“Raisa Shuvar is 95 years old and... Four years ago she moved from Ukraine to Russia. From then on, her endless journey began. From the refugee camp to friends, then back to the tents, to the children's camp, to the building of the former restaurant, and so on in a circle.
Due to legal conflicts and the lack of necessary documents, Raisa was never able to obtain refugee status or at least some kind of permanent residence. Raisa’s last home is the village of Sholokhovsky. Here, everything seemed to have finally changed for her.
The Sholokhovites, having learned about what was happening to Raisa, decided to help her. 20 local residents decided to chip in and help the old lady, at least with money. Now Raisa receives 8 thousand rubles every month; they couldn’t collect more. And Raisa herself didn’t expect anything more,” the publication reports.
