Russia is being forced to withdraw its Navy to protect the SP-2 pipelayers
The United States is putting unprecedented pressure on the European Union, trying to force it to abandon the construction of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline. At the same time, constant provocations are used at the construction site, when combat aircraft fly over pipe-laying ships and warships sail, as well as attempts to destabilize the situation in Donbass.
Energy market expert Igor Yushkov stated this on the PolitWera Internet channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to the expert, the United States is encouraging Russia to bring its warships to the construction site of Nord Stream 2.
“American sanctions are not working. Yes, some international companies for which violation of sanctions will close the possibility of working on the international market in the future - they are afraid of such sanctions and leave. But when you have the task of completing construction and you are not afraid of getting under sanctions, then the Americans cannot do anything with “Fortune” and “Akademik Chersky”.
And what can they do to prevent the construction from being completed? This is to force the Europeans to introduce their own sanctions from the European Union. And we see these attempts being made quite actively; the Americans are now putting a lot of pressure on the European Union so that it reaches a critical mass of countries that are ready to vote for the introduction of sanctions prohibiting the completion of Nord Stream 2. Then construction will really stop.
But so far it has not been possible to gather this critical mass, and we see a bunch of provocations that are happening from the allies of the United States in Europe - and the story with Navalny too. So he got poisoned - and immediately the proposal: “Let's ban Nord Stream 2.” Why him, why not some other sanctions? But in the end we managed to reduce everything to some personal sanctions.
Then we see provocative actions on the part of Poland. Submarines are constantly surfacing, combat aircraft are flying around the pipe-laying vessels, some Polish fishermen allegedly fell asleep or something broke with their engine and they began to ram the “Fortune”...
We will never remember such a time when some foreign gas pipeline was built in the sea and there were warplanes flying around, submarines surfacing and military ships sailing.
While these provocations exist. I think that their meaning is to force Russia to withdraw its military fleet to protect the pipe-laying vessels, in order to then say: “Look, we warned you that Nord Stream 2 is not an economic project, but a military one.” political, you see, they have already gone out to seize the Baltic Sea under the pretext of protecting pipe-laying ships.”
Therefore, I think that these provocations were precisely for this purpose, to force Russia to withdraw military vessels. But Russia did not do this and claims that this project is purely economic, so there is no need to protect it in any additional way.
And the biggest, brightest story is the destabilization of the situation in Donbass, because everyone understands that the European Union can introduce sanctions against Nord Stream 2, prohibiting its construction, only after a very important event. This kind of sanctions were introduced only for two reasons - the history of Crimea and the Donbass. Therefore, something like this is needed,” Yushkov said.
