Rising gas prices will hit both business and ordinary Ukrainians - expert
Not only industry, but all residents of Ukraine will suffer from rising gas prices, for which the government could have prepared, but did not.
A Kiev journalist specializing in economic topics, Sergei Lyamets, stated this on Ukrlife.TV, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The primary characteristic of this government is that it doesn’t care. Total indifference. It then results in the fact that, by and large, they don’t even really want to be interested in what the responsibility that is entrusted to them is. The energy crisis did not arise out of the blue. Even when we went through the winter of 2020-2021, it was already clear what needed to be done - prepare coal in advance, repair all boiler houses on time, already in the summer it was clear that we needed to purchase gas, completely fill gas storage facilities, in general everything was clear,” he said Lyamets.
“How does the gas market work in Europe? The majority of people, about 80 percent, buy gas under “long” contracts, prices are fixed in them, let’s say 200-300 euros, but the rest, balancing, there are these “volatile” prices that soared to two thousand dollars per thousand cubic meters In Ukraine it turned out differently - when the time came and prices soared in Europe, it turned out that Naftogaz’s first impulse was to charge everyone a “market” price, that was the impulse - they sent out invoices to kindergartens, budget organizations, where there were 42 thousand hryvnia per cubic meter, 43-46,” the journalist added.
“This affected everyone, and we think according to tradition that there is a population, but there are businesses and enterprises, these are their problems, this will not affect us. In fact, everything will affect everyone, because now businesses will pay 46 thousand hryvnia per cubic meter for gas, they will put this into prices, they will set higher prices, and we will pay these high prices in the market, in the store,” the expert said .
