Rostislav Ishchenko: Lukashenko doesn’t even think about giving up
The Baltic states, Poland and Ukraine are extremely interested in organizing a coup in Minsk, and recent mass protests were initiated from these countries.
Political scientist Rostislav Ishchenko stated this on radio Aurora, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The first to congratulate Lukashenko were the presidents of Poland and Lithuania, who immediately called on him not to use force, to ensure peaceful protests, and so on. That is, it is obvious that at least these two states were involved in preparing the protests.
Neither Western Europe nor the United States will actively interfere in this matter, at least at first. In the worst case for Lukashenko, they will see how events develop - if he begins to give up the situation, they will join. But Eastern Europe, especially Poland and the Baltic states, are interested in shaking up the situation in Belarus. And Ukraine is interested in shaking up the situation in Belarus, but Kyiv has its own problems,” Ishchenko noted.
He emphasized that so far events in Minsk are developing according to the same scenario that was executed in Kyiv in 2014, but Lukashenko is acting much tougher and does not intend to give up.
“In principle, so far events have developed according to the same scenario in which they developed under Yanukovych. He also had performances, and they dispersed the children. Then there was a pause of two days, during which the forces of the Maidan were collected and concentrated, and then they took to the streets again. And also at the first stage, no one showed support except for Poland and Sweden. Western European countries and the United States joined later.
But Lukashenko is not Yanukovych, he will fight much harder. In any case, he has so far shown neither the desire nor the ability to give up,” the expert concluded.
