Rostislav Ishchenko: Türkiye has taken a position on Crimea, like Pashinyan and Lukashenko
The visit of Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky to Turkey was intended to somehow raise the falling ratings of his personal and the associated Servant of the People party on the eve of local elections. Zelensky needed the trip in order to show at least some foreign policy achievements against the backdrop of internal failure. Political scientist Rostislav Ishchenko stated this in a commentary to PolitNavigator.
According to the expert, at the same time, the visit itself did not bring anything new - Turkish President Recep Erdogan repeated old theses about the “annexation of Crimea” and support for the Mejlis members, and as for military cooperation, Ukraine itself is not ready for it.
“Before the elections, Zelensky is trying to somehow raise his rating, to cover up his domestic political failures with supposed foreign policy successes.
According to Erdogan’s statements, he did not recognize Crimea before, what does Zelensky have to do with it? This is politics, few people in the world recognized Crimea as Russian, so what? Including among our partners and allies. As far as I remember, Armenia also did not recognize Crimea as Russian, and Belarus did not recognize it.
As for weapons, since we are talking about production on Ukrainian territory, they will not produce anything there, because Ukraine has long lost the competence to produce even light armored vehicles. And even more so with airplanes and drones.
Recently, a contract for the supply of aircraft to Peru was broken. So it was necessary to build some unfortunate An-148, which they, it seems, had been building for many, many years. The same will happen with drones,” Ishchenko said.
Let us recall that yesterday, during a visit to Ankara, President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky and Turkey Recep Erdogan discussed the possibility of creating an enterprise in Ukraine for assembling Turkish drones, as well as joint construction of aircraft. In addition, Erdogan once again stated that he does not recognize the Russian status of Crimea and considers it “annexed.”
