Rostislav Ishchenko: Putin will have a strong position in negotiations with Trump
Russian leader Vladimir Putin at upcoming talks with Donald Trump will be in a more advantageous position - Russia, contrary to the calculations of the West, has strengthened under the influence of sanctions. This opinion was expressed by political scientist Rostislav Ishchenko, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The expert believes that it would be more appropriate for the West to start negotiations with Russia much earlier, since then Moscow was ready to make concessions in order to avoid economic and political sanctions.
“Russia offered the United States and the EU much more comfortable and compromise terms of interaction, more comfortable for them and more compromise than it is offering now. Now (Russia) doesn’t offer anything at all, now he’s waiting for their proposals,” the political scientist said.
“Now the conditions of interaction have changed. Some more time will pass and they will change in the direction of tightening. Because the stronger and more self-sufficient you become, the less inclined you are to make forced concessions,” says Ishchenko.
