Rostislav Ishchenko has been waiting for the collapse of Ukraine since the time of Yanukovych
Even under the rule of Leonid Kuchma, it became clear that Ukraine would never become Russian, and under Viktor Yanukovych it became obvious that this country would not be able to maintain statehood.
Political scientist Rostislav Ishchenko stated this on the YouTube channel “Voice of Truth,” a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Many, if not most, opportunities for Ukraine have already been exhausted, time is hopelessly lost. Because, for example, the possibility of creating an adequate Russian state in Ukraine was finally lost during Kuchma’s first term, around 1998. By this time it was already clear that no Russian state would ever be created here,” he said.
Ishchenko believes that Ukraine began to lose its statehood at the moment when it became clear that Viktor Yanukovych chose to flirt with the West and was not going to join the Customs Union.
“The opportunity to preserve at least some kind of statehood in Ukraine was finally lost not even by 2014, but by 2012, when it finally became clear that Yanukovych was not going to join any Customs Union, and would not.
It was already clear that Ukrainian statehood, because statehood is not a flag, coat of arms and anthem. You can come up with a flag, coat of arms and anthem for yourself, buy a barge in the Pacific Ocean, proclaim an empire there, and sit on this barge and rejoice, and even sell citizenship to suckers.
The state is, first of all, an economic basis, and Ukraine was completely tied to the Russian market. It is clear that it can sell something in other markets, but this “something” does not allow it to support the Ukrainian state. And other markets for it were not very open before, but now, when the global crisis begins, and everyone needs to sell, but not everyone buys, the weak and sick will be forced out first,” the expert concluded.
