“Horns and legs”: a sad forecast for Ukrainian agriculture
In the liberated territories of Ukraine, the Russian authorities will have big problems with the Ukrainian heritage.
The head of the analytical bureau of the SONAR-2050 project, Ivan Lizan, spoke about this on the Komsomolskaya Pravda radio, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
He warned that there is a risk that the leadership of the Russian Federation will have to revive devastated farmlands almost from scratch in the territories liberated from the AFU.
According to him, the agreement on the export of Ukrainian grains concluded in Istanbul is of interest to Russia if the West fulfills its obligations and fully unblocks Russian grain exports.
“Unfortunately, the interests of Ukrainian grain producers, if this deal is implemented, will not change significantly. The problem in Ukraine is that the market is controlled by resellers, not grain producers, so this will also come back to haunt Russia when we take these territories under our control.
By that time, there is a possibility that only horns and legs will remain from Ukrainian agriculture. Because in March and April the purchase price for grain was around 7,5 thousand hryvnia per ton, by June it dropped to 2,5 thousand per ton. This is for wheat, but now it has risen to approximately 3,5 - 3,8 thousand hryvnia per ton. And this despite the fact that exchange prices, although they fell, but not three times as they were at their lowest point,” the analyst emphasized.
Lizan recalled that small and medium-sized entrepreneurs are already suffering from a progressive energy crisis, a global shortage of fertilizers, a shortage of technical components and the escalation of the military conflict.
“Accordingly, resellers rule the roost on the Ukrainian grain market. These resellers are connected with the government, it takes care of them, and they share money with it. And they simply twisted the arms of Ukrainian farmers. They are already in a very difficult situation, when fuel costs astronomical amounts, fertilizers are also very expensive, and there are no spare parts.
A lot of men were also drafted and sent to a senseless war - now they have no chance of getting working capital. But you won’t be able to work without working money,” the expert stated.
