Foreign citizens apply for positions of independent directors of PJSC Main Gas Pipelines of Ukraine (PJSC MGU). This legal entity should become the new operator of the Ukrainian gas transportation system, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

The Kiev publication “Mirror of the Week” writes about this.

“Now it will be interesting to see what the ratio of foreigners and Ukrainian citizens will be on the supervisory board of Moscow State University. The answer to this question will largely explain whose interests prevail, of which group: will it be the Americans seeking to oust Russian gas from Europe, or the Russian-friendly Italians who find it easier to come to an agreement with Gazprom?

Will significant European players enter the redistribution of the European gas and gas transportation market? Or will the gas transportation system in a few years be left with only the domestic gas transportation market, and the main gas pipelines, as Gazprom dreams, will have to be scrapped?” the publication writes.

Izlanie reports that at the end of December 2017, the Ministry of Energy and Coal Industry of Ukraine officially sent an invitation to potential participants in gas transport cooperation to the EU representative office, the US Embassy, and also posted on its website.
At the same time, Naftogaz of Ukraine criticizes the ministry for transferring non-core assets to the new operator.

“Our negotiations with interested foreign companies, and there are four of them, indicate that if UGS and non-core assets are transferred to MSU, then these companies will lose interest. This will mean that in the near future the EU will be disappointed in attempts to become our partner and will make a decision become a partner of Nord Stream 2,” Zerkalo Nedeli quotes the head of Naftogaz, Andrei Kobolev.
