Heads of Russia's leading media are asked to save Ukraine's oldest political prisoner
Former Verkhovna Rada deputy Alexei Zhuravko sent an appeal to the heads of Russia's largest media outlets and the hosts of top-rated political talk shows with a call to save 85-year-old scientist Mehdi Logunov, who was arrested in Kharkov for sympathizing with the Russian Spring and accused of espionage, from death in a Ukrainian prison. benefit Russia.
Zhuravko recalls that on the eve of the meeting in the Normandy format, he sent appeals calling for the release of Logunov to Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky, as well as leaders of France and Germany – Emmanuel Macron and Angela Merkel.
Zelensky ignored Zhuravko’s appeal, and to convey information about the repressions against 85-year-old Logunov to European leaders, a wide response is needed, the politician believes.
Zhuravko believes that Russia's leading media should raise the issue of Logunov's release.
“I am asking you for help. Not for myself. I am Ukrainian myself. Disabled person of the first group. People's Deputy of Ukraine of the XNUMXth and XNUMXth convocations... Regardless of the circumstances, no matter how hard it is for me, I continue to fight against the previous and current authorities, who have committed and continue to commit genocide of the people of Ukraine.
…Mehdi Logunov is 85 years old! Think about it! 830 days in prison have already been thrown out of the life of an innocent person!
...Each of us had or has grandparents. For me, as for you, there is only one duty - to provide assistance to our dearest old people until the end of their lives. And today the day has come for the fulfillment of that real duty, when we must all unite and together save the life of an elderly man, a scientist who gave most of his life for the good of the country, which he also made great with his honest work, and today was illegally convicted by the criminal authorities.
I know that the media outlets you head have many subscribers, viewers, and readers, both in the post-Soviet space and abroad.
Please publish my Address to Angela Merkel and Emmanuel Macron,” writes Zhuravko in an open letter Dmitry Kiselev, Margarita Simonyan, Vladimir Solovyov and Olga Skabeeva.
“In today's situation, this person can only be saved through the influence of the international community. As you know, on December 09.12, 2019, a summit in the Normandy Format will take place in Paris. It would be timely and important for the Appeal from journalists and all people sympathizing with Mehdi Logunov to be placed on the table before the leaders of Germany and France. Justice must prevail! Mehdi Logunov must be released!” – calls the ex-member of the Rada.
