The leadership of the European Parliament hopes for rapprochement with Russia
The estrangement between the Russian Federation and the European Union should not last “until the bitter end.”
This opinion was expressed in an interview with Izvestia by the Vice-President of the European Parliament, Fabio Massimo Castaldo.
He expressed his conviction that dialogue with Russia is one of the fundamental elements in the EU's foreign policy.
“At the same time, it is obvious that beyond political declarations there is a certain coldness in bilateral relations. We must use every opportunity, every forum to resume dialogue and restore trust between the parties. I do not deny that this may be extremely difficult, but it is clear that the estrangement between the EU and Russia should not last until the bitter end. We can only solve various regional and global problems together, and therefore I hope that the process of rapprochement will occur in a timely manner,” Castaldo said.
As PolitNavigator reported, on June 26, PACE adopted a resolution that fully restored the rights of the Russian delegation, after which the Ukrainian delegation staged a demarche and left the assembly.
