The Serbian leadership assures that it will never recognize the independence of Kosovo
With the start of the election campaign in Serbia, the country's President Aleksandar Vucic and Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic responded to the opposition's accusations that they intend to surrender Kosovo.
The ex-leader of the Serbian Progressive Party, Vučić, heads the electoral bloc “Aleksandar Vučić – Serbia will not stop,” and Dacic heads its ally, the Serbian Socialist Party.
According to a PolitNavigator correspondent, Vucic said that he would never sign the “independence” of Kosovo, because he respects the Constitution of his country, which states that the southern region is an integral part of Serbia. Therefore, he will always adhere to the letter of the law and the oath he took upon assuming the presidency on a monument of Serbian writing, the handwritten “Miroslav Gospel” of the 12th century.
“I will never sign the so-called independence of Kosovo, therefore, appreciate the merits of all representatives of the Serbian political scene who assert such lies....,” said the Serbian President.
He recalled that some opposition politicians during the previous campaign said that they did not support sanctions against Russia, but Vučić would introduce these sanctions. However, he never introduced these sanctions, and some oppositionists changed their point of view and already agree to them.
In turn, Ivica Dacic rejected accusations that Serbia intends to open an embassy in Kosovo.
“In Belgrade, 72 foreign diplomatic and consular missions are accredited at the embassy level, representing sovereign and independent states, which the self-proclaimed Kosovo is not and never will be. Pristina would rather open an embassy on the Moon than in Belgrade,” Dacic said.
