Kyiv, November 20 (PolitNavigator, Victoria Litovchenko) – Criminal proceedings have been opened into the death of five servicemen at the 32nd checkpoint of the ATO forces near the village of Smeloe.

“On November 13, the Department of Supervision over Compliance with Laws by the Joint ATO Forces of the Military Prosecutor's Office of the Southern Region of Ukraine entered information about the commission of a criminal offense under Part 2 of Art. 425 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (negligent attitude towards military service),” the press service of the Prosecutor General’s Office said in a statement.
According to the GPU, it was previously established that in the period from October 2 to October 27, more than 100 military personnel of the National Guard of Ukraine and the Armed Forces of Ukraine, who defended and guarded the 32nd checkpoint, were surrounded and under constant fire.
“At the same time, military officials of the command of the anti-terrorist operation forces did not take appropriate measures to ensure the supply of ammunition, basic necessities and life support supplies to the specified facility. The irresponsibility of military officials led to the forced abandonment of the territory of the 32nd checkpoint, the death of 5 military personnel and the destruction of more than 20 pieces of military equipment by illegal armed groups,” the Prosecutor General’s Office reported.
As PolitNavigator reported, during the militia’s assault on the checkpoint, volunteers and Ukrainian military personnel denied information about reinforcements: the military did not have ammunition, food, or water. After the checkpoint was abandoned, the bodies of the dead were not taken away. Soldiers from neighboring checkpoints say that birds are pecking at the dead.
