The head of government said that he discussed the new realities with gas supplies to Europe with the Minister-Delegate for Energy Razvan Nikolaescu.
“As you can see, the situation in the region is deteriorating, gas supplies have been suspended. This morning I discussed this situation with the Minister of Energy and I want to immediately send a signal that in Romania in the short term, within six months, there will be no problems, we have the necessary reserves,” said Ponta, quoted by Moldnews with reference to the Romanian Ziare edition.
Romania has its own natural gas reserves. It purchases about 30% of the consumed blue fuel from Gazprom, which is transited through Ukraine and Moldova.
During the Russian-Ukrainian gas crisis of 2009, due to Ukraine's withdrawal of gas intended for European consumers, Romanian companies suffered losses of about $35 million.
